Who We Are
The Heartfulness Meditation Center of Cleveland is a community of people from all walks of life in northeast Ohio who practice Heartfulness. We support each other’s personal journeys through group meditations, educational programs, and conversations about the positive impacts of meditation upon our daily lives.
A Cleveland-based Heartfulness trainer can help you begin, continue, and advance your meditation practice. Think of this person as your personal meditation coach who supports you through a personal journey of enhancing the strength, flexibility, and endurance of inner peace. Heartfulness trainers provide meditation free of charge.
We welcome anyone 18 years of age or older. Minors 15 years of age or older are also welcomed but must be accompanied by an adult. We invite you to join our community. There are no fees or membership requirements for meditation. We are an all-volunteer group of people who practice in several ways:
- Collaboratively with a Heartfulness trainer
- Individually on our own
As a community every Sunday during our weekly large-group meditation - As small groups during the week at locations throughout the Cleveland area
- At special events
Heartspot Cleveland
Heartfulness Cleveland is a nonprofit organization and local affiliate (called HeartSpot) of the international Heartfulness mission, which has its home in Kanha Shanti Vanam (near Hyderabad) in Telangna, India. There are over 6,000 HeartSpots worldwide. Heartfulness practice emerged in India during the 1880s and continues to be practiced by more and more people on every continent.
Imagine this. Every time you engage in your Heartfulness practice, you connect with the hearts of like-minded souls in cultures, countries, and communities around the globe. Together, all of us create a field of light, love, inner peace, and life-affirming creativity that wraps the Earth like a protective energetic blanket—an internet of heart-based consciousness.
Our History
The Heartfulness Meditation Center of Cleveland has its origins in 1972 when a man named Shri Ram Chandra of Shahajanpur, India (affectionately called Babuji) visited Cleveland, Ohio, to teach the Heartfulness system of meditation. It was the same year that Babuji traveled for the first time extensively throughout America and Europe, where he taught meditation, gave talks, and engaged in dialogues.
During this world tour, Babuji stayed with the family of Grace Kimball in Lakewood, an inner-ring suburb of Cleveland, which served as homebase for his teaching throughout Northeast Ohio. Several Cleveland-based trainers have been studying and practicing Heartfulness meditation since this initial meeting with Babuji and his successor, Chariji, who accompanied him during this trip.
The visit by Babuji and Chariji to Cleveland inspired local meditators to form a community of like-minded seekers to meditate together and support each other.
We organize regular meetings for mentors who want to share their wisdom and for apprentices who want to find enlightenment.
Buddhist religion is not imposed on our guests. You do not even have to be a Buddhist to come and stay as long as you wish. We teach the way of thinking, not the rules of life.
Heart-Based Work In Cleveland
Northeast Ohio has a long, honored history of social and environmental activism and public and private philanthropy. For more than a century, many generous individuals, families, and organizations have been supporting and enhancing health services, human services, public park systems, natural preserves, and many other initiatives that strive to assist individuals, families, neighborhoods, and communities to experience an exceptional quality of life.
We honor and celebrate this Cleveland tradition and encourage today’s advocates and activists to advance their projects with a simple practice of Heartfulness meditation. Connect with the light, love, and life-affirming creativity in your heart. Allow it to flow into your relationships and work. And be surprised by the creative solutions that emerge from pausing and tuning to inner peace.
Many people in Cleveland, Northeast Ohio, and the Midwest have a long history of rolling up their sleeves and getting work done with an attention to detail which produces excellence. We follow our intuition. We perceive a better future. We invent new processes and products and ways of being with each other and Nature. Let’s build on that history and take this legacy into a new dimension with Heartfulness.
Together, let’s allow wisdom to flow from our heart-based collective!
